Radiology
Brunswick Community Hospital offers routine and advanced imaging services both at the hospital and at Sea Trail Medical Center located in Sunset Beach. Our team of doctors, nurses and technicians specialize in offering advanced imaging technology.
Services include
Bone Density Test (DEXA scan) ??? A bone density test is a noninvasive, evaluation procedure that uses x-rays to measure bone mass or the weight of the skeleton. The amount of bone in the skeleton determines how strong it is. Bone densitometry is often used to measure bone mass in the spine, hips and arms, as these are the areas most likely to fracture when bone mass is low.
CT Scan (Commuted Tomography Scan) ??? A CT, or CAT scan, is a diagnostic imaging procedure that uses a combination of X-rays and computer technology to produce cross-sectional images (often called slices), both horizontally and vertically, of the body. A CT scan shows detailed images of any part of the body, including the bones, muscles, fat and organs. CT scans are more detailed than general X-rays.
Digital Mammography ??? The latest advancement in the early detection of breast cancer, new digital capabilities will enable the technologist to immediately view mammogram images on the screen, thereby reducing the amount of time spent in the imaging suite and the need for retakes.
Fluoroscopy ??? Fluoroscopy is an imaging technique commonly used by physicians to obtain real-time images of the internal structures of a patient through the use of a fluoroscope.
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) ??? An MRI is a diagnostic procedure that uses a combination of large magnets, radiofrequencies and a computer to produce detailed images of organs and structures within the body.
Nuclear Medicine ??? A branch of medicine and medical imaging that uses the nuclear properties of matter in diagnosis and therapy. More specifically, nuclear medicine is a part of molecular imaging because it produces images that reflect biological processes that take place at the cellular and subcellular level.
Stereotactic Breast Biopsy -- Stereotactic breast biopsy is a test that uses a special imaging technology to accurately target a questionable lesion in the breast. This procedure is an alternative to surgical biopsies.
Ultrasound ??? An ultrasound, also called sonography, is a diagnostic imaging technique which uses high-frequency sound waves and a computer to create images of blood vessels, tissues and organs. Ultrasounds are used to view internal organs as they function, and to assess blood flow through various vessels.
X-ray ??? An X-ray is a diagnostic test which uses invisible electromagnetic energy beams to produce images of internal tissues, bones and organs onto film.
