Supply - At a Construction Kickoff ceremony on June 2, Brunswick Community Hospital leaders unveiled the name for the new 74-bed hospital that will open in 2010. The new hospital, which will be located approximately three miles north of the current hospital on Hwy. 17, will be named the Brunswick Novant Medical Center.

"We have seen rapid changes at the hospital over the past two years," said Denise Mihal, Brunswick Community Hospital's president and CEO. "As a result, many community leaders and employees expressed to me that they felt it was the right time for the hospital to consider a name change."

Brunswick Community Hospital joined the North Carolina based, not-for-profit healthcare system Novant Health in March 2006, and received permission from the state to build a new, larger replacement facility in April 2007.

During the past two years, the hospital has added more than 150 new staff members, purchased additional equipment and added several new services, including speech therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, stereotactic breast biopsy, and a golf fitness program.

"When naming the new facility, we felt it was important to maintain the pride we feel in the county, but also express our new partnership with Novant and the benefits we are enjoying from that partnership," Mihal said. "The name, Brunswick Novant Medical Center, seemed to accomplish both of these goals."

The new hospital will feature all private rooms and include the following services:

• 74 acute care beds and four observation beds
• Four surgical operating rooms
• One c-section room
• 24-hour emergency department
• Maternity center
• Intensive care unit
• Imaging services
• Full-service laboratory and pharmacy
• Outpatient services, including physical therapy, speech therapy, cardiac rehabilitation and pulmonary rehabilitation
