Supply - In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Board-certified Physicians Mark Tillotson and Richard Scallion will share facts about breast health at free seminars in Shallotte and Southport this month. Both seminars are part of Brunswick Community Hospital’s Focus on Health community lecture series.
The Shallotte seminar will be led by Dr. Tillotson on Thursday, October 15, at the Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation Community Room at 795 Ocean Highway. Dr. Scallion will present on Thursday, October 22, at the Southport Community Building located at 223 E. Bay Street in Southport. Light refreshments will be served at 2:30 p.m., and the program will begin at 2:45 p.m.
Participants at these seminars will learn essential tips for breast cancer prevention, as well as information on early detection and the various treatment options for breast cancer. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women in the United States – second only to skin cancer.
Dr. Tillotson is one of three physicians at Brunswick Surgical Associates, practicing alongside Dr. Scallion and Dr. Richard DeSandre. He is a graduate of the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas, and he completed his residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill, N.C. Dr. Tillotson serves as chief of staff for Brunswick Community Hospital and president of the Novant Medical Group’s Coastal Market.
Dr. Scallion, who had previously practiced medicine in Memphis, Tenn., joined Brunswick Surgical Associates in 2007. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Ga., and served residencies at both Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta, Ga., and New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C. Dr. Scallion specializes in minimally-invasive, or laparoscopic, surgery for many procedures.
Registration for the Focus on Health seminars on October 15 and 22 is required. Call (910) 755-1183 to register or for more information.
